Koh Tao

Koh Tao is an island located in the Gulf of Thailand, within the Surat Thani Province of Thailand. The island is shaped like a curved bean and is situated northwest of Koh Phangan, approximately 45 kilometers away. It covers an area of about 21 square kilometers and has an estimated population of 12,000 people.

Nearby, there is a small island called Koh Nang Yuan, located to the northwest of Koh Tao. A sandbar connects the two islands, creating a picturesque seascape that resembles a divided sea. This area is a popular spot for snorkeling and diving, offering stunning coral reefs. Koh Nang Yuan also boasts a famous viewpoint called Nang Yuan Viewpoint, providing breathtaking panoramic views.

John-Suwan Viewpoint

John-Suwan Viewpoint is situated at the southernmost tip of Koh Tao, renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views of Chalok Ban Kao Bay and Thian Og Bay (Shark Bay), resembling majestic bird wings. Visitors can also enjoy sweeping vistas of Koh Tao, extending all the way to the mountains in the north. On clear days, the beauty of the shallow coral reefs in both bays becomes even more apparent. This viewpoint was accidentally discovered by Bang-Ern, the landowner, and his foreign friend John while they were searching for wood to build a restaurant. Today, John-Suwan Viewpoint stands as one of the most popular tourist attractions on Koh Tao.

Grape Viewpoint is the most remote viewpoint on Koh Tao, named by P' Aek, a photographer who created the Koh Tao travel guide in 2017. Located almost at the northernmost point of the island, it offers stunning elevated views of the iconic sandbar connecting to Koh Nang Yuan. However, the highlight isn't just the viewpoint itself, but also the scenic and thrilling jungle trek required to reach it.
